Text Message Scam Alert
The Kansas Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division has recently become aware of a text message scam. Residents are receiving text messages stating their Kaw Valley Bank Account has been deactivated, and the resident needs to call a number. Once residents call this number, they are asked to provide sensitive information to reactivate their account. Most residents receiving this message are Sprint customers who do not bank with Kaw Valley Bank.
The Attorney General’s Office warns Kansans not to give out any personal information over the phone, through text messages, or by emails. Consumer should never give out their personal information without first confirming the caller’s identity. If the caller asks the consumer for their credit card company, credit card number, checking account number or social security number, it is probably a scam. Your bank and credit institutions should already have that information.
