Morrison to begin joint negotiations with myspace.com

Jan. 12, 2007 -- Following up on a campaign promise, Attorney General Paul Morrison will begin joint negotiations with MySpace.com, a social networking website.

“I look forward to negotiating with MySpace for increased accountability and stricter safety regulations to keep our kids safe on the internet,” said Morrison.

In August 2006, Morrison recommended a number of proposals to make MySpace and other social networking websites safer, including parental consent for minors, age verification technology, parental education and the tracking of registered sex offenders' online activity.

“It is important to our children's safety that we use all available technology to protect kids from online predators,” said Morrison. “We must also give parents the tools necessary to monitor their kids internet activities and keep them safe.”

Morrison has joined today the MySpace Multi-State Working Group, a leadership committee comprised of Attorneys General from across the nation, with the mission of making MySpace a safer place for kids to interact.

Morrison is pleased to be part of such an honorable mission and looks forward to taking steps to make the internet safer for our children.
