A joint investigation with the Roeland Park Police Department and Kansas Department of Revenue revealed that LTS Insurance, in coordination with International Automobile Association ("IAA"), sold "International Driver's Licences" to consumers - representing they could be used as a valid Kansas driver's license.
The lawsuit filed on Monday in Wyandotte County District Court alleged the Kansas City, Kansas, based LTS Insurance targeted hispanic consumers, misled them as to the validity of the International Driver's License, and then sold the license at a grossly excessive price compared to the price a valid drivers license can be obtained from the Division of Motor Vehicles.
"This another example of how our Consumer Protection Division collaborates with law enforcement authorities to protect Kansas consumers from deceptive business practices," Six said. "The persistence and hard work of the Division sends the message that if you are a business scamming Kansas consumers, beware."
