Attorney General to spend April honoring Kansas crime victims

April 1, 2008 -- Attorney General Steve Six will spend the month of April recognizing Kansas crime victims and the professionals and volunteers who work daily to ensure victims’ rights are met.

“It’s important for me, as the state’s top law enforcement officer, to take the lead in helping Kansas crime victims,” Six said. “During April, I’ll be traveling the state sharing information about victims’ rights and increasing awareness about how Kansans can avoid becoming a victim.”

During April, Six will visit victims’ assistance programs, speak about victims’ rights and educate the public about ways to avoid becoming a victim of crime. He will travel to Johnson County, Pittsburg, Topeka, Lawrence, Wichita and other cities.

Six will also co-host with Governor Kathleen Sebelius the 11th Annual Victims’ Rights Conference in Topeka on April 16th and 17th.

“As a judge, I saw first-hand the tragedies victims and their families face and the strength they show at every step in the criminal justice process,” Six said. “Serving the victims of crime is challenging. But, by reaching out to underserved victims, keeping them safe and vigorously upholding their rights, we can make a difference for each victim.”
