Baxter Springs man charged with child abuse

March 25, 2008 -- Attorney General Steve Six announced today that a Baxter Springs man was charged with Aggravated Battery and Abuse of a Child. William L. Barber was charged and arrested yesterday in Cherokee County.

State officials alleges that around February 7, 2008, Barber intentionally shook a child causing great bodily harm.

Barber is charged with one count Aggravated Battery, a severity level 4 person felony, and one count Abuse of a Child, a severity level 5 person felony.

Judge set bond at $50,000.00. These are only allegations and Barber will be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
