Dec. 6, 2007 -- Attorney General Paul Morrison announced today the launch of a new consumer awareness workshop series aimed at preventing Kansans from becoming victims of fraud. Representatives from the Kansas Attorney General’s Office will present these workshops to requesting groups and organizations across Kansas. Information from these workshops will also be available at www.ksag.org.
“These workshops are part of our effort this holiday season to increase awareness of potential consumer scams,” Morrison said. “By attending one of these workshops, or downloading information from our Web site, Kansans can learn how to better protect themselves from identity theft and other consumer threats.”
Kansas groups and organizations can request a free presentation from the Attorney General’s Office by filling out the Workshop Request Form at www.ksag.org. Presentation requests will be honored at the discretion of the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection and Antitrust Division according to available resources.
Workshop topics include:
• Identity Theft
• Tips for Senior Consumers
• Being a Smart Consumer
• Telemarketing and Junk Mail
“These workshops will allow groups or organizations to educate their membership about common schemes that target Kansas consumers,” Morrison said. “By working together, my office can help local organizations spread this valuable information within their communities.”
The Attorney General’s Office periodically visits organizations and groups who make special requests for consumer presentations. The new workshop format and online request form will streamline this process and allow more groups and organizations access to the information. It will also allow organizations to host workshops in their communities for the general public.
