Oct. 19, 2007 -- Attorney General Paul Morrison announced today that he received a letter from Cherokee County Attorney Michael Goodrich confirming his resignation from office effective December 1, 2007.
Goodrich also appointed Assistant Attorney General Veronica Dersch as acting county attorney starting today. She was sworn in early this afternoon in Columbus.
"Effective immediately and until a replacement for the position of Cherokee County Attorney is named by the Cherokee County Democratic Central Committee, I hereby appoint you as Deputy Cherokee County Attorney and authorize you to exercise all of the powers and duties of my office. I appreciate your willingness to serve in this capacity," Goodrich wrote in a letter to Dersch.
Dersch is an experienced and effective prosecutor. She successfully convicted Benjamin Appleby of capital murder last year along side Morrison. She has experience prosecuting crimes ranging from murder to property crimes, rape to drug crimes and much more.
"The Attorney General's Office is committed to keeping the citizens of Cherokee County safe. I am confident in Assistant Attorney General Dersch's ability to keep cases moving forward and hold criminals
