The following statement is from Ashley Anstaett on behalf of the Attorney General's Office regarding the Kansas Supreme Court's action on the gaming lawsuit, Sept. 20, 2007:
"Because of the importance of this case, the Attorney General has made every attempt to expedite this process.
"We're disappointed by the Court's action, because the issues here must be resolved by the Kansas Supreme Court. The final decision on the constitutionality of the gaming statute will not be made by the District Court. Sending the case there for a ruling only slows down resolution of these important issues.
"The Kansas Supreme Court has repeatedly taken cases of this nature as we explained at length in our brief. The Kansas Constitution clearly and explicitly allows them to do so."
