Former Robinson City Clerk sentenced to prison for embezzlement

Sept. 14, 2007 -- Today Brown County District Judge John Weingart sentenced Catherine Walsh to three seven-month prison terms for embezzling from the City of Robinson, Kansas. The sentences are to run concurrently. In June of this year, Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison charged Walsh with one count of felony theft and two counts of making false information.

The Attorney General accused Walsh of stealing $148,452.30 from 2002 to 2007 while she was employed as a Robinson city clerk and submitting false information to hide the theft.

Walsh plead guilty to all charges on August 7, 2007.

Under Kansas law, Walsh was eligible for probation, however, the Attorney General sought a departure from probation to a prison sentence based upon Walsh's breach of her fiduciary duty to her employer, the city. Walsh agreed to the departure and prison sentence. The court also ordered Walsh to pay restitution to the city.

The investigation was initiated by the Brown County Sheriff's office. Assistant Attorney General Jon Fleenor prosecuted the case for the Attorney General.
