Attorney General's Office files charges against Wendell Betts

July 10, 2007 -- Attorney General Paul Morrison announced today that charges were filed Friday against Wendell Betts in Shawnee County District Court. Betts turned himself in to the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office Monday afternoon.

Betts is charged with one count Forgery, a Level 8, Non-Person Felony, and three counts of Making False Information, a Level 8, Non-Person Felony.

The State alleges that Betts forged an automobile insurance card between 2003 and 2005, and falsely reported the status of insurance coverage when registering an automobile in 2003, 2004, and 2005.

Betts is scheduled to appear in court on July 25, 2007, at 10:30 a.m.

These charges are merely allegations and Betts will be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
