June 5, 2007 -- Nan Porter will join the Attorney General’s Crime Victims Compensation Board effective immediately. Attorney General Morrison’s appointment of Porter was approved by the Senate Confirmations Oversight Committee today.
“The Crime Victims Compensation Board is often the last resort for innocent victims of crime,” Morrison said. “Nan Porter will serve crime victims across Kansas with the same integrity and compassion demonstrated by her work in the Wichita area.”
Morrison’s appointment of Porter fills the vacancy created by Paula Salazar at the end of May. Salazar resigned from the board after nearly 10 years of service.
Porter has worked as a therapist in the Wichita area for 30 years, including 27 years at the Wichita State University Counseling Center. Born in Wichita, she attended Wichita State University, where she earned an M.A. in Clinical Psychology. As a therapist, Porter has extensive experience working with the victims of crime and violence.
Porter counseled the victims of domestic violence through her group “Smart Women Who Love Too Much” in the Wichita Area. Previously, she served on the Sedgwick County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Board which oversaw the disbursement of funds to treatment centers.
Porters name will now be submitted by the Oversight Committee to the full Senate next session for confirmation.
