The Kansas Solicitor General Unit assures the quality and consistency of appellate advocacy both written and oral within the Attorney General’s Office and assists the local county and district attorneys with their appellate litigation.
Stephen McAllister was hired to lead the Unit in 2007. McAllister has had a distinguished career as a constitutional scholar at the University of Kansas. He clerked for Justices Byron White and Clarence Thomas at the United States Supreme Court.
The majority of Attorneys General in the nation have added this type of unit to their offices with much success. This knowledge and expertise will serve Kansas well as we continue to litigate serious constitutional questions.
