State Protection from Abuse Fund - (PFA)

Purpose: To provide temporary emergency shelter, counseling, and assistance to victims of domestic abuse and their dependent children; and to provide educational services directed at reducing the incidence of domestic abuse and diminishing its impact on the victims.

Eligible Applicants: Funds are available to domestic violence programs that provide 24-hour crisis intervention services, shelter or safe house facilities, advocacy and referral services and emergency transportation. No local match is required.

Funding Source: 46% equal to $23 of the state marriage license fee, a percentage equal to $1.50 of district court docket fees and 50 cents of municipal and county court docket fees fund Protection from Abuse grants. Interest earned on the fund is deposited into a special account of this fund. New funds were created by the 2002 Legislature to create funds for sexual assault services. Funds are generated with $4 of the remittances of $105 civil docket fee.
